Boise-area school districts cancel classes for Thursday; Boise names next superintendent

Several Treasure Valley school districts announced closures for Thursday after snow fell Wednesday afternoon and left many roads covered.

The Boise, West Ada, Nampa, Kuna and Middleton school districts announced closures late Wednesday evening.

Gem Prep schools in Nampa and Meridian will have a virtual learning day.

It’s the second straight snow day for many area schools.

A slight chance of snow and rain is possible Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

“Our transportation company feels there could be issues getting buses safely to all of the areas where we need to go to pick up students,” the Middleton School District said in a news release. “Additionally, snow removal, both as a district, and within the district neighborhoods, is ongoing and may not be able to keep up with the additional new snow.”

News releases from the Boise and Nampa school districts expressed similar concerns.

Boise School District approves new superintendent

The Boise School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved Lisa Roberts as the district’s new superintendent Wednesday.

Roberts is the first female superintendent to lead Boise Schools. She takes over July 1 for retiring superintendent Coby Dennis.

“As Boise School District’s first female superintendent, Lisa Roberts is a trailblazer and an inspiration to women everywhere,” Boise School District president Dave Wagers said in a press release. “She is a strong, motivational leader who is well-qualified to take our schools to new heights.”

Roberts served as the Boise School District deputy superintendent for the past five years.
