Boise will be booming and zooming with fireworks, cycling, concerts and more in July

We are already in July. Crazy!

Independence Day is here. How do you celebrate? Backyard barbecues are a must, but for those wanting to view some awesome pyrotechnics, you have some options. Head to Ann Morrison Park for the annual fireworks show at dusk. Arrive early to claim your spot — it can get crowded — and enjoy food and drink vendors in the meantime. New this year, an interactive fountain with a red, white and blue-themed LED light show and water sequence.

Meridian, Caldwell, Star and Melba will also have fireworks and other festivities, such as parades, music and family activities. If you’d like to get out of town for the holiday, Idaho Falls and Garden Valley will also be lit.

So what about after America’s birthday?

Well, how about free tunes! Weekly concerts are in full swing right now. You’ve got Tuesdays on the Creek, Alive After Five on Wednesdays and Thursday Thunder to get you started. Areas outside the Treasure Valley are hoppin’, too. And for a fee, Idaho Botanical Garden has a Thursday concert series, and Ste. Chapelle winery has music on select dates.

Or maybe some pro cycling is what you are looking forward to. The Twilight Criterium is a fan favorite. Seek out a spot on Saturday, July 8, in Cecil Andrus Park to watch the races, and don’t forget to kick off the event July 7 at JUMP for the Twilight Trifecta. Feed your face with complimentary french fries and sliders, and enjoy a free concert.

For those wanting a little dust-on-your-boots action, the Canyon County Fair (July 27-30) has got you. In addition to a carnival, vendors, exhibits and livestock, rock band 38 Special and country artists Scotty McCreery and Joe Nichols are scheduled to perform.

Note: Check with event websites or social media before attending. Events might be canceled or postponed after press deadline.
