Boise State football announces coaching staff additions, including well-known kicker

A former Boise State kicker is one of several new additions to the Broncos’ coaching staff.

Tyler Rausa, who held Boise State’s single-season record for field goals until 2021, has joined the staff as a special teams assistant, head coach Andy Avalos announced Friday.

Rausa played for the Broncos from 2013 to 2016. In 2015, he went 25-for-30 on field goals, setting a program record for made field goals that current Boise State kicker Jonah Dalmas broke with 26 in 2021.

Rausa is tied for No. 7 in program history with 34 career field goals. Dalmas ranks No. 2 with 56. Kyle Brotzman owns the program record with 67.

Rausa spent last season with the USFL’s Tampa Bay Bandits, making 9-of-14 field goal attempts.

He wasn’t the only addition to the coaching staff Friday.

Boise State also added former Whitworth University defensive back Brian Mullin as a defensive assistant, former graduate assistant Keaton Davis as football operations coordinator and longtime college coach Lance Anderson as an senior offensive analyst.

Anderson’s coaching career has included stops at Idaho State, Bucknell, Saint Mary’s, Utah State, San Diego and, most recently, Stanford. He was recruiting coordinator for the Cardinal from 2007 to 2013 and director of defense from 2014 to 2022. He also added the title of associate head coach in 2018 and ended last season as interim head coach after David Shaw resigned.

Former Boise State and Arizona State head coach Dirk Koetter was an offensive analyst for the Broncos last season. He ended the season as interim offensive coordinator after Tim Plough was fired.
