Boise State guard RayJ Dennis transferring to Toledo

Apr. 13—The University of Toledo men's basketball program's last available scholarship is accounted for.

RayJ Dennis, a sophomore guard from Boise State, will transfer to UT, multiple sources told The Blade.

The 6-foot-2 Oswego, Ill., native, considered one of the five best transfers in the Mountain West Conference, averaged 8.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and a team-best 2.9 assists last season. He led the Broncos with 34 steals.

Dennis, who picked Boise State over Toledo out of high school, went viral during his freshman year when he scored all 19 of his points in the final 3 minutes, 27 seconds of regulation in an eventual 88-83 Boise State victory over Utah State. The Broncos trailed by 18 prior to Dennis' heroics.

"I've been around a long, long time. I don't know when I've seen a more perfect comeback and improbable," Boise State coach Leon Rice said after the game.

Dennis played the second-most minutes on the team this past season, starting the first 25 games before his playing time declined to 21, 17, and 16 minutes in the final three games.

After scoring in double figures in nine of Boise State's first 13 games, Dennis only reached the 10-point plateau twice the rest of the season. The Broncos started 12-1, dropping eight of 15 games to end the year.

His best scoring efforts last season were 18 points in the season opener against Final Four team Houston and 19 points against nationally ranked Brigham Young University.

Out of high school, Dennis was a three-star recruit and the No. 9 player in Illinois.

Despite losing Marreon Jackson, Spencer Littleson, and Mattia Acunzo, the Rockets have reloaded for another run at the Mid-American Conference championship. MAC freshman of the year Ryan Rollins, forwards Setric Millner, Jr., and JT Shumate, guards Keshaun Saunders and Ra'Heim Moss, and center AJ Edu return. The Rockets bring in a talented recruiting class that includes guards EJ Farmer and Elijah Wilson, and forwards Mihai Carcoana, Kooper Jacobi, and Arnor Eythorsson.

Dennis is the final piece of the puzzle.
