Boise State to play men’s basketball game vs. marquee opponent in … Idaho Falls?

With aspirations of making an unprecedented third straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the Boise State men’s basketball team is beefing up its 2023-24 nonconference schedule.

The Broncos on Tuesday announced a neutral-site matchup with Saint Mary’s scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 1 at Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls. The Mountain America Center opened in November 2022 and seats 6,000.

Like the Broncos, Saint Mary’s is coming off a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and finished No. 11 in last season’s NET rankings, advancing to the second round of the tournament.

The Broncos and Gaels last met in 2014, with Boise State winning 82-71. Boise State leads the overall series 7-6.

“Boise State Athletics has a strong and passionate fan base in eastern Idaho,” Boise State athletic director Jeramiah Dickey said in a news release. “We’re excited to be able to connect with Bronco Nation across the state of Idaho. This is a great neutral-site opportunity, and I’m grateful to our men’s basketball coaching staff for continuing to be innovative in their approach to scheduling marquee opponents as we seek a third straight NCAA Tournament appearance.”

Boise State season ticket holders can purchase tickets to the game before the general public on Aug. 16 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A special promo code will be emailed to all season ticket holders with directions on how to do so. The remaining tickets will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Aug. 17 on ticketmaster.com.

Boise State’s complete nonconference schedule will be released in the coming months.

The Broncos are on a foreign tour in Canada. They opened the tour with a 134-70 victory over Trinity Western on Monday night. They will play Fraser Valley University on Tuesday, and then head northwest in British Columbia to continue the tour in Kamloops for a game against Thompson Rivers College on Thursday.
