Bok Tower Gardens has received $500,000 for historic preservation efforts through the Save America's Treasures program.

The matching grant funding will support Bok Tower Gardens' efforts to rehabilitate and restore the original landscape design created by Fredrick Law Olmsted Jr., including the restoration and conservation of the Exedra water fountain, the attraction said in a news release.

The Save America's Treasures grants are awarded through a partnership of the National Park Service, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Institute for Museum and Library Services, the release said. The program recently announced the awarding of $24.25 million in grants.

The Exedra fountain, a gift to Edward Bok from friends in the neighboring Mountain Lake Community, was installed in 1930. Sculpted from the same marble used to create The Singing Tower, the fountain overlooks one of the highest elevation points in peninsular Florida.

The community can assist with completing preservation and restoration projects by donating funds to match the grant award, the release said. Anyone interested in giving may contact Melissa Tyrone, Director of Philanthropy and Membership, at 863-734-1213 or mtyrone@boktower.org.
