Bolingbrook police investigating shooting during attempted vehicle burglary

A man was shot late Monday in Bolingbrook, after apparently catching people breaking in to his vehicle, police said.

Officers were called to the 600 block of Cambridge Way at 11:46 p.m. for a report of a man shot in his stomach, according to a news release from Bolingbrook police. The man was taken to an area hospital where his condition was stabilized.

According to the news release from Lt. Anthony Columbus, the man had been inside his home “when he heard a noise outside and saw the dome light lit on his vehicle.” He grabbed a handgun and went outside and saw what appeared to be more than one person rifling through his vehicle, which police did not provide a description of.

One of the people near the vehicle pulled a gun and shot at the man, who was struck at least once. The resident also returned fire, but did not appear to hit anyone, police said.

The people fled before police arrived and no arrests have been made. Authorities did not provide a description of the shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to call Bolingbrook police (630) 226-8620.
