Bollywood’s Biggest Couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh Tie the Knot in Lake Como

With two ceremonies and stunning custom fashion, the pair wed in style.

India takes weddings seriously. So when two of the country’s brightest stars—namely, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh—announced they’d be tying the knot, the occasion was destined to be larger than life. The couple who have been engaged since January, were married this week during a special two-part event in Lake Como, Italy. The festivities made global headlines, with every detail of the festivities that took place over the course of several days at the Villa del Balbianello, the stunning 18th century villa known for its lush gardens, discussed and dissected.

The excitement around DeepVeer as they’re playful known, is easy to understand. Both box-office draws in India, they’ve starred opposite each other on the silver screen multiple times, but have remained coy about their relationship in real life. Together on and off since 2012, they’ve become Bollywood’s golden couple, thanks in part to their impeccable style. Regardless of the occasion, they always dress in sync, pulling out the latest designer pieces from the runways or showcasing the talents of India’s homegrown couturiers. Naturally, the bar was raised for their wedding attire. Dressed in Sabyasachi Mukherjee-designed formalwear, the pair didn’t disappoint.

The destination wedding was comprised of two separate ceremonies; a Konkani Phool Muddi, meant to welcome the groom’s family into the bride’s, and a traditional Anand Karaj or blissful union. For the first, Padukone wore a gold and orange saree accented by layers of intricate jewelry, while Singh chose a white kanjeevaram sherwani, a long embroidered coat. For their second act, the couple went even more opulent with pieces that were brimming with embellishment. Singh switched into a patterned sherwani and matching turban, while Padukone opted for a gilded crimson lehenga. The ensemble appeared even more striking with the addition of stunning jewelry—rings, necklaces, and bejeweled tikka headdress.

Though they’re bound to set trends, the ceremonies were about much more than fashion. With folks at all corners of the Internet eagerly awaiting images of the friends-and-family-only gathering, speculation about the event—and the hashtag #DeepVeerWedding—quickly went viral. The couple gave fans a glimpse at their happy moment on Instagram this morning, with Padukone captioning the slideshow of stunning photos with a single heart emoji.
