Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan released from hospital after coronavirus battle

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been released from the hospital following a battle with coronavirus.

The 77-year-old Bachchan, who is among the most prolific actors on the Indian film scene, was hospitalized in Mumbai for three weeks.

“My father, thankfully, has tested negative on his latest Covid-19 test and has been discharged from the hospital,” the actor’s son, Abhishek Bachchan, tweeted Sunday. “He will now be at home and rest. Thank you all for all your prayers and wishes for him.”

Abhishek, who is also an actor, was hospitalized with the virus last month as well. He wrote in a separate tweet Sunday that he remains hospitalized “due to some comorbidities.”

“Again, thank you all for your continued wishes and prayers for my family,” he tweeted. “Very humbled and indebted. I’ll beat this and come back healthier! Promise.”

Abhishek’s wife — fellow Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — and their 8-year-old daughter, Aaradhya, tested positive for coronavirus last month, too. They were both released from the hospital last week.

On Sunday, Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter after he was discharged that he is “back home in solitary quarantine.”
