Carrboro High School cancels classes after bomb threat, evacuation

A bomb threat that led to the evacuation of Carrboro High School has been found not credible, officials announced Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning, all students and staff were evacuated to the athletic fields after a threat against the school was made via email. About 40 minutes later, officials announced school was being canceled for the rest of the day.

Students were transported to Culbreth Middle School where parents could pick them up. Parents were told not to go to Carrboro High while the investigation remained underway. Culbreth would continue with classes for the day, officials said.

The district issued another update at 12:08 p.m. saying:

  • Students will be dismissed first to a parent/caregiver who is currently in the car rider line.

  • After that, bus transportation will be arranged for all remaining students who need a ride home.

  • Students who walked to Carrboro High are not being dismissed at this time, but will be soon.

  • Finally, after law enforcement gives the “all clear,” staff and students who drove to school will be allowed back at the school

  • The school has not made a decision on Wednesday’s after-school activities, practices and other events

Law enforcement are on the scene investigating, the statement said.
