Bomb threat leads to evacuation at MCC

Jul. 8—MANCHESTER — Manchester Community College was evacuated Thursday afternoon after police informed school officials of a bomb threat, but no bomb was ultimately found.

Ann Harrison, director of communications at Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, said Friday afternoon that Manchester police contacted MCC police at approximately 11:45 a.m. Thursday after Manchester police received a call stating a bomb was present on the campus.

Harrison said an immediate search conducted by Manchester and MCC police did not find any threat or problem. The campus was evacuated around noon, and the state police's bomb squad was dispatched to determine if any threat was present.

Harrison said state police notified MCC officials at around 2 p.m. that no threat was present, and students and staff were notified shortly after that regular school operations would resume on Friday.

State Police Trooper First Class Pedro A. Muñiz said Friday afternoon that there is no threat to the public at this time.

Harrison said police were able to trace the call to a specific individual who made similar bomb threat calls to community colleges in other states on Thursday.

Muñiz said the State Police Major Crimes Squad is currently investigating the incident, and no other information is currently available.
