Bomb threat at San Leandro school leads to nearly 1,000 students, staff evacuated

(KRON) — Authorities received a call about a bomb threat Thursday afternoon at John Muir Middle School in San Leandro, the Alameda County Fire Department said. The call came around 1:50 p.m. when students were being dismissed from school.

The call led to 942 students and 42 staff members being evacuated, authorities said. They were directed to go to Cherry Grove Park.

An Alameda County bomb squad is headed to the school as a “precaution.” After Alameda County Sheriff’s Department explosive detection dogs searched the school, no bomb device was found.

Authorities deemed the school campus safe and all clear at 4:15 p.m., according to ACFD.

John Muir Middle School is located at 1444 Williams St. in San Leandro.
