A Cajun food food festival, duck-carving contests a show of fire trucks and other community service vehicles are a few of the things you can enjoy this weekend.

Here are six things to do in Terrebonne and Lafourche:

Food, rides and crafts are on tap for the 48th annual Gheens Bon Mange' Festival.

It's scheduled for 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Vacherie-Gheens Community Center, 1783 La. 654 in Gheens.

Bon Mange’ translated from Cajun means "good eats," and the festival features fresh-cooked food made with ingredients mostly harvested from the community, with recipes handed down through generations.

Dishes will include gumbo, jambalaya, fried fish, shrimp, grillades, white beans and fresh cracklins. There will be live music, auctions, inflatables and a cornhole tournament. Admission and parking are free.

Cajun Shrimp Boil

Pick up some boiled shrimp for lunch Friday and support the Salvation Army of Houma-Thibodaux.

The nonprofit service group will hold its second annual Cajun Shrimp Boil from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5539 West main Street, Houma.

A $12 ticket will get you shrimp, corn, sausage and potatoes with dipping sauce. But tickets at bit.ly/SAshrimp. For information, call 447-2930.

Cajun Heritage Festival

This weekend's Cajun Heritage Festival includes a duck decoy show and auction, carving demos, a duck calling contest and plenty of food.

It's scheduled Friday through Sunday at the Larose Civic Center, 307 E. 5th St.

Market at the Marina is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday under the Houma twin spans across from Terrebonne General Medical Center.

The market, held rain or shine, is hosted by Terrebonne General Health System and the Houma Downtown Development Corporation. This month's offerings include fresh produce, seafood, honey, jams, baked goods and hot meals.

Pop up Shop & Food Festival

WaLk N TaLk Wireless will sponsor a Summer Jamz Pop-Up Shop and Food Festival from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at 121 N. Hollywood Road, Houma.

Booths will feature food and local vendors. The Tru Hustlers Motorcycle Club will make a special appearance. DJ Run Tel Dat will provide the music.

Miss Cherie’s Memorial Touch-A-Truck is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Houma's Main Library, 151 Library Drive. The event is sponsored by the Big Brown Reaching Back Foundation.
