Popular Bondi Sands sunscreen urgently recalled over fears it offers no protection

Two batches have been stripped from shelves in Coles, Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse.

A sunscreen sold across Australia has been urgently recalled over fears it won't protect users from the sun.

Popular brand Bondi Sands said it "sincerely regrets" the inconvenience caused to its customers after two versions of its Mineral Zinc Sunscreen were recalled following instruction from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

"Your safety is our number one priority," the company said in the wake of the recall, stressing all its products are throughly tested before being sold to consumers.

Two batches of Bondi Sands Mineral Zinc Sunscreen SPF50+ Face Lotion 60mL and Bondi Sands Mineral Zinc Sunscreen SPF50+ Body Lotion 120mL products have been recalled after receiving reports the sunscreen fluid is splitting into layers, with the unmixed liquids feared to not provide any sun protection.

"Since UV rays can cause skin cancer, the protection offered by sunscreen is very important," the TGA said.

The affected batches are numbers 98182 and 98181 that expire in November, 2025. The batch number is located at the top on the back of the product near the expiry date.

Sunscreen available at major stores across Australia

The products are sold in Coles, Woolworths and Chemist Warehouse as well as a host of other independent stores.

Those who have purchased either of the impacted products are urged not to use the sunscreen and are instructed to return the sunscreen to the place of purchase for a refund.

Bondi Sands said all other batches of the same product are unaffected and are safe to use.
