'Bone Collector' writer part of Bonita Springs author series that begins in January

An internationally acclaimed thriller writer and a triple-threat novelist/poet/short story author are this winter’s lineup for the Friends of the Bonita Springs Library. The two events raise funds for the Bonita Springs Public Library.

The luncheons and lectures will be held in January and February at the Audubon Country Club in North Naples. (See the information box for details on how to purchase tickets, which include lunch and are $45 apiece.)

The writers are:

  • Sarah Collins Honenberger, author of “Catcher, Caught” and “White Lies,” on Thursday, Jan. 26, and

  • Jeffery Deaver, whose thrillers, story collections and nonfiction law book have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide, on Thursday, Feb. 23.

Honenberger, who lives in Tappahannock, Virginia, and spends winters in Florida, says she “finds inspiration in ordinary people who overcome extraordinary challenges.”

Honenberger said she’ll talk about “inspiration, process, research and a writer’s life.”

Her third novel, “Catcher, Caught” is a 21st-century re-telling of J.D. Salinger’s iconic “The Catcher in the Rye.” “Catcher, Caught” was selected to be part of the PEN/Faulkner Foundation's prestigious Writers in Schools education program.

Honenberger’s other novels are “White Lies: A Tale of Babies, Vaccines, and Deception,” “Waltzing Cowboys” and “Minding Henry Lewis.” She also wrote a children’s book called “The Mouse in the House (On the Night Before Christmas).”

Suspense novelist Deaver is best known for his series featuring quadriplegic forensics expert Lincoln Rhyme. The first book in the series, “The Bone Collector,” was made into a successful movie starring Denzel Washington as Rhyme and Angelina Jolie as a rookie NYPD officer who works with him to track down a serial killer.

An Illinois native, Deaver has degrees in journalism and the law, and he worked in both professions before becoming a novelist. His 40-plus books have been translated into 25 languages and sold in 150 countries.

Deaver’s most recent novel is “Hunting Time,” the fourth in his series featuring Colter Shaw, whom he describes as “an itinerate ‘reward-seeker’ who travels the country to help police solve crimes and private citizens locate missing persons.”
