Bonfire Woodbury, And All Other Locations, Will Close

WOODBURY, MN — Bonfire Wood Fire Cooking is among the latest restaurants forced to permanently close amid the coronavirus crisis. The Woodbury location, along with its locations in Savage, Blaine, and Eagan, will not reopen.

The chain of local eateries has been around for 20 years.

"On March 17th, we closed the doors to the Bonfire Restaurants, to protect the health of our team, and the community. And today, we have reached the exceedingly difficult decision that the Bonfire legacy will come to an end," the restaurant announced Friday.

"As you know, the future of hospitality is incredibly uncertain and over the past month, we have tried our best to navigate this uncharted territory. We have explored multiple paths to emerge triumphant at the end of this pandemic, but there’s just no way for us to support the financial weight of our company and the building we call home. We were already walking a fine line before COVID-19 and given that no one knows how long the impacts of this pandemic will last, or what the new normal will be, I do not see a viable path forward."

As the COVID-19 crisis continues, more Minnesota restaurants and other businesses are closing for good, even as the rest of the state begins to open up.

On Monday, the state of Minnesota will allow retail stores, malls, and main street businesses to reopen for in-person shopping as long as they have a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan. However, Minnesota bars, restaurants, barbershops, and salons cannot yet reopen yet except for takeout.

Gov. Tim Walz has directed his cabinet to assemble guidance on how to safely reopen bars, restaurants, barbershops, and salons beginning June 1.
