Bonnie Raitt shocked the Grammy-watching world Sunday night when she upset a room of the world's best-selling pop stars to win Song of the Year.

Raitt — a beloved Americana troubadour who entered the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 — won for "Just Like That," a pensive folk song about "the generosity of someone [who] donates their beloved's organs to help another person live," she said Sunday on the Grammy Awards stage. She topped a category that included entries from Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Harry Styles and Lizzo, among others.

And it appears a growing cohort of listeners discovered Raitt's touching tune after her primetime win. Digital song sales for "Just Like That" jumped 12,900% in the U.S. from Feb. 4 — one day before the awards — to Monday, a day after the show, according to data consumption company Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music/MRC Data). In that same period, on-demand streaming of the song rose roughly 5,700%, per Luminate.

Additionally, Raitt's album sales saw a 605% bump, while digital song sales from her catalog jumped about 2,100%, Luminate reported.

Late Nashville folk hero John Prine inspired "Just Like That," the title track off her 2022 album, Raitt said Sunday at the show.

"The story is so simple and so beautiful for these times," the singer said.

Backstage moments later, a flabbergasted Raitt told reporters: "To be 73 years old and get a Song of the Year ... when I'm barely a songwriter? After five decades, I do it 'cause I love it. I'm so lucky I still get to do this for a living."

Raitt's album propelled her to three total Grammy Awards this year, including Best American Roots Song and Best Americana Performance.
