Boo Carter, Kaleb Beasley together in Tennessee football secondary? 'We could take it to the natty'

MURFREESBORO – Boo Carter believes a defensive backfield that includes him and Lipscomb Academy's Kaleb Beasley could lead Tennessee to a national championship game.

"If he and I teamed up at Tennessee I feel like we could take it to the natty," said Carter, a Class of 2024 safety and running back.

Beasley has been committed to the Vols since October.

The Vols are one of five schools Carter junior has narrowed his choices down to with the plan of making his commitment before the 2023 high school season.

Carter, a Chattanooga Brainerd junior, is the No. 4-ranked prospect in the state and a four-star athlete according to 247Sports Composite. Carter transferred to Brainerd from Chattanooga Christian during the 2022 TSSAA football playoffs.

Carter's top five includes Colorado, Michigan, Ohio State and Oregon along with the Vols. Carter said he will likely be an early enrollee.

Beasley is the No.1-ranked prospect in the state per the 247Sports Composite and is the No. 14 cornerback in the country. He is the No. 140 overall prospect in the country.

Carter is currently helping his Brainerd teammates in the TSSAA BlueCross Boys Basketball State Championships at Middle Tennessee State's Murphy Center. Brainerd (25-7) reached the semifinals with a 63-60 win over Fairview to set up a Class 2A semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Friday with Alcoa (28-8) and three-star wide receiver Brandon Winton, who transferred from IMG Academy during the high school basketball season.

Winton originally played for Knoxville Webb before transferring to the Florida boarding school for the 2022 football season.

Carter has scheduled a trip to visit Michigan on March 21 and then in Knoxville to visit Tennessee three days later. And he's planned a visit to Ohio State on June 18.

Carter had seven points with 10 assists and five steals against the Yellow Jackets.

His last steal came late in the game when he intercepted a pass in front of a Yellow Jacket guard and kept it in bounds as he was headed out of bounds next to media row.

"It was a game-changing play," Carter said. "That middle position on the court is like safety in football. It's easy for me to read.

"When I saw him look deep, I had to sprint and get it."
