Boo(m)! Halloween fireworks in Stow plus 13 other spooky things to do in Greater Akron

It's just about time to put the final nail in the coffin for Halloween 2022.

But there's still a bit of life left in this holiday corpse.

And there's even a surprise plot twist for those within earshot of Stow.

A dark and stormy night over the Labor Day weekend forced the city to hastily call off its fireworks to cap off the Summer Sunset Blast at Silver Springs Park on Young Road.

Instead, the city will host a Flannels, Food Trucks & Fireworks celebration Friday night.

This rare Halloween fireworks show and celebration will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

There will be food trucks available with the fireworks show starting at 8 p.m.

Here are 13 more traditional Halloween things to do in and around the Akron area.

Celebrate Halloween with critters and creatures with Boo at the Zoo

This is the last weekend for the Akron Zoo's Boo at the Zoo.

The final Boo at Zoo days will be Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days.

Tickets are now available at akronzoo.org.

This not-so-scary event includes 12 trick-or-treat stations. Guests are permitted — even encouraged — to wear a costume. Adults are prohibited from covering their face with costume masks, mascot heads or face paint.

For those with food allergies, Teal Pumpkin treats will be available at each station.

A chilling tale at Akron Civic Theatre

The MadCap Puppets will perform The Legend of Sleepy Hollow at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Akron Civic Theatre.

It tells the tale of schoolmaster Ichabod Crane and his frightful encounter with a headless horseman with a few twists and turns of the Washington Irving classic.

Tickets are $8 for kids and $14 for adults.

One of the area's largest Halloween gatherings of young and old is in Kent.

Things start out relatively tame downtown as the Family Friendly Halloween festivities from 5 p. m. to 7 p.m. Friday.

Many of the merchants and businesses will be handing out treats to the kids.

As the night wears on, more and more students from Kent State head downtown to join in the fun and show off outlandish costumes.

Eerily elegant masquerade party at the Akron Civic

The macabre Halloween masquerade party for adults returns Saturday night to the Akron Civic Theatre.

The formal costume party starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $75 and include a full bar, signature cocktail, light hors d'oeuvres and entertainment.

Live music will be provided by Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun.

Check out Ohio's only all zombie band

It's just about time for Ohio's only Halloween zombie band to go back into the crypt.

October Rising will be giving its final Halloween performances of the season this weekend at the Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory in Akron.

The band is comprised of Greater Akron rockers and performs on the midway nightly between the two haunts.

Spooky and fun art at Akron Children's Museum

The Akron Children's Museum is hosting a Spooktacular Art Workshop on Saturday.

The program is included with your admission and runs from 11 a.m. to noon.

The painting session will be led by the mother-and-daughter teaching artist team Stephanie Stewart and Kayla Decatur.

Kids will explore fall colors and pick a scene to paint.

Check out Hudson Haunted House, the area's oldest charitable haunt

The Hudson Haunted House is the granddaddy of local haunts and is one of the few remaining haunted houses that raises money solely for charity, in this case the Hudson Jaycees.

This is a good first haunted house for adventurous youngsters.

The house is located at 2250 Barlow Road in Hudson and tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for kids.

Let's do the time warp again: 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' in downtown Akron

Join Janet and Brad and a legion of fans for a showing of the cult classic "Rocky Horror Picture Show" in downtown Akron.

The free movie, sponsored by Lock 3 and The Nightlight, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on top of the Mocha Maiden Parking Deck.

The parking deck is located next to Musica off East Market Street between High and Main streets in downtown Akron.

Get lost in a corn maze at Dussel Farm

There's no shortage of farms in and around Greater Akron offering up fall fun and treats.

But this year is a bit special for one local farm.

The Dussel Farm and Feed Store in Brimfield is once again welcoming fall visitors.

Halloween in the Summit Metro Parks

Summit Metro Parks is hosting some special events just in time for Halloween.

The park district will host a Truck or Treat from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at the Main Entrance to the Goodyear Heights Metro Park. The free event will feature the trucks and vehicles the Metro Park uses along with treats for kids.

And from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, the Metro Parks will host a Spooky Scavenger Hunt at the Twinsburg Ledges Area and Nature Center.

Families will get to take a self-guided scavenger hunt along Coyote Run Trail in search of spooky and not-so-spooky items.

Those who complete the hunt will get a prize.

Trick or treat like the pioneers at Hale Farm and Village

Hale Farm and Village in Bath Township is hosting a Slightly Spooky Stories event on Saturday.

The Halloween-inspired activities are included with admission to the farm and village.

Young guests can trick or treat at various stations spread throughout the grounds and perhaps learn a bit about what life was like for early settlers here.

There's nothing like literally getting into the Halloween spirits than a good ol' fashion bar crawl.

Akron is host to a Crawl with Us event this Halloween joining dozens of other cities across the country.

Check in begins 4-6 p.m. at R Shea Brewing's downtown location in Canal Place at 540 S. Main St., Suite 214. Participants then can begin the trek to five other participating venues for drink and food specials into the wee hours of the night.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes.

Get scared at the drive-in in Ravenna and Barberton

Nothing can make a horror movie more scarier than watching it old school in a dark car.

The drive-ins in Ravenna and Barberton will be open Friday and Saturday nights serving up some scary choices.

At the Midway Twin Drive-In theater in Ravenna, one screen will feature the reboot of a scare franchise with "Halloween Ends" and the late show will be "Smile." Things get a bit more family friendly Saturday night with showings of "Caroline" and "Paranorman."

Over in Barberton, the Magic City Drive-in Theater will show "Halloween Ends" and "Smile" on one of its screens both Friday and Saturday nights.
