From Town & Country

The Trump presidency has completely reframed the role of the First Family, and perhaps most significant in that reshaping is the position Ivanka Trump holds within the administration. Not just a First Daughter with ceremonial duties, Ivanka is actively involved in policymaking as her father's advisor in the West Wing (as is her husband, Jared Kushner).

Now, a new book claims she tried to use her influence to change the title of the "First Lady's Office" to the "First Family Office" while Melania was still residing in New York following the Trump inauguration. But Melania blocked the switch.

"While Melania stayed in New York, Ivanka continued to establish herself in the West Wing, notorious for its cramped and limited working spaces. According to several people, she was eyeing real estate in the East Wing as well, the domain of the first lady," reads an except from journalist Mary Jordan's new book, The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump, which was adapted for the Washington Post ahead of its June 16 publication date.

"Among other proposals, Ivanka suggested renaming the 'First Lady’s Office' the 'First Family Office.' Melania did not allow that to happen. It was tradition, and she was not going to let her stepdaughter change it."

Per the Post, "Jordan conducted more than 100 interviews" in writing this book, but the First Lady's chief of staff and spokesperson Stephanie Grisham questions its veracity.

Town & Country previously asked Grisham for comment about the book, and she responded via email: "Yet another book about Mrs. Trump with false information and sources. This book belongs in the fiction genre."
