Book sale to benefit domestic violence, sexual assault victims in Freeport

Book lovers in Freeport have a chance to get some new reading material while helping domestic violence and sexual assault victims in the area.

VOICES of Stephenson County Book Nook's spring half-price sale will begin March 30.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit services offered through VOICES of Stephenson County.

The sale will feature gently used hardcover and paperback books as well as DVDs, records, puzzles and books on CD. There will also be some rare and collectible books available along with a silent auction.

“The Spring Half Price Sale is one of our three major sales of the year and we are so pleased to support the important work of VOICES,” said Diane Leverton, VOICES Book Nook manager.

Leverton said customers cannot donate books or materials during the sale, but monetary donations are allowed.

The VOICES Book Nook is located in Lincoln Mall, 1265 W. Galena Ave., Freeport. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays.

The VOICES Book Nook is a used bookstore operated by VOICES of Stephenson County that was founded in 2009, continuing a legacy of charity book sales which began at the Freeport YWCA in 1969.

The Book Nook is staffed primarily by volunteers and its inventory comes from public donations.

The spring half price book sale ends April 8.
