Former President Donald Trump is not the only Palm Beach resident to be booked in Atlanta on state conspiracy and other charges related to his alleged efforts to help overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election results.

Rudy Giuliani, who served as a campaign lawyer for Trump, also has a home in Palm Beach — a lakeview condominium facing the Intracoastal Waterway in the Southlake Building near the town’s marina in Midtown.

In addition to the state charges Giuiliani is facing in Atlanta, a federal judge ruled Aug. 30 in a civil lawsuit that Giuliani repeatedly defamed two Georgia election workers — by falsely claiming they mishandled ballots — during the contentious aftermath of the presidential election.

Giuliani and his third wife, Judith Nathan Giuliani, paid $1.9 million for a two-bedroom apartment at the Southlake in February 2010.

The couple's bitter divorce after 16 years of marriage was finalized in 2019, and Rudy Giuliani took sole possession of the condo — with its 2,280 square feet of living space, inside and out — in January 2020, property records show. That same month, his ex-wife was deeded the couple’s other Palm Beach condo, a smaller two-bedroom unit across town at Palm Beach Towers.

At one point in 2019, while the divorce was still pending, the Southlake condo was listed for sale at $3.3 million, but it never found a buyer.

A DOOZY OF A TAX BILL? Trump could pay nearly $2 million in Palm Beach County property taxes, new estimates show

In the years before they split, the Giulianis were frequently seen visiting Palm Beach, often attending events at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club. The former New York City mayor also was an occasional guest speaker at local events.

Giuliani said in 2018 he could be a walking “commercial for Palm Beach” and enjoyed playing golf on Trump's two Palm Beach County courses, including the Trump International Golf Club near West Palm Beach, where he said he was a member, according to a story published by Politico.

Giuliani surrendered Aug. 23 at Georgia’s Fulton County Courthouse and was booked on 13 charges related to interfering in the 2020 election. He is among 19 defendants, including Trump, in the state case and was released on $150,000 bond. After he left the courthouse, Giuliani called the indictment “a travesty.”

In the Aug. 30 civil-suit ruling, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell found Giuliani liable for defaming election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. His ruling means the case can go to trial to determine damages. Howell has already ordered Giuliani to pay Freeman nearly $90,000 in legal fees and his businesses to pay nearly $44,000 in legal fees.

Freeman and Moss filed their lawsuit against Giuliani and others in December 2021 after Giuliani accused them of mishandling ballots at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on election night, Nov. 3, 2020.

Reporting by USA Today Justice Department correspondent Bart Jansen contributed to this story, which was updated Aug. 31, 2023, to add details about the election-linked defamation lawsuit involving Rudy Giuiliani.
