“Truman’s Trusted Friend: Charlie Ross and His Remarkable Sisters” by John B. Ross

The author died in May, soon after completing the manuscript of this book about his grandfather. Charlie Ross was a high school classmate of Harry Truman and served as press secretary during Truman’s presidency.

“Exploring Cuba: Erasing Fears Through Multicultural Education” by Bette Tate-Beaver and Lewis W. Diuguid

Diuguid, who worked for The Star for almost 40 years, took over sole writing of this book about educators’ trips to Cuba after the death of Tate-Beaver, former executive director of the National Association for Multicultural Education. He will promote it at 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at the Black Archives of Mid-America and at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Kansas City, Kansas Public Library.

“Small-Girl Toni and the Quest for Gold” by Giselle Anatol (illustrated by Raissa Figueroa)

Anatol is an English professor at the University of Kansas who previously wrote “The Things That Fly in the Night.” This is her first picture book.

“Escaping Mr. Rochester” by L.L. McKinney

Kansas City young adult author McKinney, who wrote “A Blade So Black” (2018), reimagines Charlotte Brontë’s “Jane Eyre” in this novel.

“Pretty Rings and Broken Things: A Billionaire Arranged Marriage Romance” by Kat Singleton

Local author Singleton will launch the latest of her popular romance novels at 7 p.m. Feb. 22 at Monarch Books and Gifts in Overland Park. She also will appear with fellow authors Xio Axelrod and Laurelin Paige at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the El Torreon Event Space.
