Boone, Gators product Tommy Townsend earns NFL All-Rookie honors

Tommy Townsend, a former Florida Gators punter and product of Orlando’s Boone High, was named to the NFL’s 2020 All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA).

In 17 games this season, Townsend had 46 punts and averaged 45 yards per kick, with his longest punt spanning 67 yards. Townsend also put 20 punts inside the 20-yard line. Townsend ranked fifth in the NFL among punters with more than 40 punts with only 119 return yards allowed.

One omission from the All-Rookie Team, at least in the eyes of Central Florida football fans, was Gabriel Davis, a product of Sanford Seminole High and UCF. The first-year receiver for the Buffalo Bills has 35 catches this season for 599 yards and seven touchdowns. He will be playing against Townsend’s Chiefs in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.
