Border Patrol vehicle carrying migrants overturns in Texas highway crash

A Border Patrol agent and several in-custody migrants reportedly were injured when their van overturned in a harrowing highway crash a couple miles from the west Texas city of Van Horn near the Rio Grande.

The Customs and Border Protection agent was behind the wheel when the vehicle rolled over near mile marker 145 on Interstate 10 between Van Horn and El Paso, Marfa Public Radio reporter Travis Bubenik reported.

As many as seven people, including the driver, suffered injuries and were transported to various hospitals, Bubenik said in a Twitter post.

The Texas Department of Transportation tweeted out photos of an overturned vehicle that matched up with the description of the CBP crash.

The photos showed a white vehicle on its side with a shattered windshield and its hood apparently ripped off by the force of the crash.

Attempts to reach a CBP spokesperson assigned to the Rio Grande Valley were not immediately successful Thursday.
