Boris Johnson Arrives at Buckingham Palace to Meet with Queen

Boris Johnson arrived at Buckingham Palace in London, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, July 24, where Queen Elizabeth II officially asked him to form a government, the Royal Family confirmed.

Video posted by the British Army in London shows the incoming prime minister’s motorcade arriving at the palace.

At one point, Johnson’s motorcade was interrupted by protesters with Greenpeace UK, who blocked a roadway holding banners that declared a “climate emergency”. The demonstrators were quickly removed from the road and the prime minister arrived at Buckingham Palace without further incident.

Earlier on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Theresa May visited the queen to tender her resignation as head of government, news reports said. Johnson was elected leader of the Conservative Party on July 23 and assumed his role as prime minister on July 24. He previously served as Mayor of London and and foreign secretary, and was a proponent of the United Kingdom’s “Leave” campaign to exit the European Union. Credit: @armyinlondon via Storyful
