Bost pursuing condo redevelopment of former Smithfield Cafe buildings downtown

A new developer with a different approach is taking on an old building on Smithfield Street downtown.

Bost Development, a locally based firm whose principal Thomas Bost was partner in the development of the former Ace Hotel in East Liberty and led the launch of Indianapolis-based Milhaus’ Arsenal 201 apartment development in East Liberty, is now taking on redeveloping the former Smithfield Cafe building and some of its neighbors.

It’s a property for which Bost was a partner in a previous redevelopment project last year that included Al and Jason Lardo, who presented a proposal to a Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership Development Activities Meeting in July 2021 to renovate the building and three of its neighbors for use as short-stay apartments along with a restaurant.
