These Boston-area hotels were awarded five stars by Forbes

The Forbes Travel Guide announced its 2022 Star Awards on Tuesday, giving five Boston-area hotels the prestigious five-star distinction.

The annual list awards five stars to the world’s best resorts and spas. This year, 323 hotels worldwide made the cut.

That includes the Boston Harbor Hotel, Four Seasons Hotel Boston, Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons One Dalton Street and Encore Boston Harbor, the latter two of which landed on the five-star list for the first time.

“Our short time in Boston has seen unprecedented change, yet our commitment to Five-Star service and our immaculate resort have remained a priority since we opened our doors,” Jenny Holaday, president of Encore Boston Harbor, said. “This achievement is a testament to the excellence our employees embody every day. I could not be more proud of this team.”

The spas at the Mandarin Oriental, Encore and One Dalton were awarded five stars as well.

“We are elated to have been awarded a total of ten stars across both the Hotel and the Wellness Floor at One Dalton. To be included in such a prestigious list of world-class hotels, restaurants and spas globally is an honour,” said Reed Kandalaft, general manager of One Dalton.

To generate the list, Forbes inspectors pose as guests and stay at each hotel for three days and two nights. They test up to 900 rigorious standards, from luxuries like health-conscious food and beverage choices and enhanced sleep options, to traditional amenities like décor and courtesy of the staff. Seventy-five percent of a hotel’s rating is determined by service, while the remaining 25 percent is graded on the quality of its facilities, according to Forbes.

The Chatham Inn and Wequassett Resort & Golf Club on Cape Cod and the Wheatleigh in the Berkshires also made the 2022 list.
