BOSTON — The Boston Celtics announced today they have signed center Neemias Queta to a two-way contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Queta became NBA’s first Portuguese player after being selected no. 39 overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2021 NBA Draft.

The 7-foot center appeared in 20 NBA games with the Sacramento Kings (2021-23), which resulted in career averages of 2.9 points and 2.1 rebounds in 7.5 minutes per game.

Queta also had a ‘two-way contract’ with the Sacramento Kings, which allowed him to play for both the NBA professional team and its G-League affiliate.

Last season, he played in 29 games with the Stockton Kings, the Sacramento Kings G League affiliate. He averaged 16.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. He went on to earn 2022-23 NBA G League All-Defensive Team honors and finished second in Kia MVP voting.

Born in Barreiro, Queta began playing youth basketball at age 10 with F.C. Barreirense and then played two games at the professional level with SL Benfica, before electing to play college basketball.

He had a standout career with the Utah State Aggies before joining the Sacramento Kings in the 2021 NBA Draft.
