Boston’s going to the dogs: New pooch-friendly spaces at patios and beer gardens this summer

Bostonians will soon be able to enjoy a nice summer brew with man’s best friend.

Through a new policy from the Inspectional Services Department’s Health Division, restaurants and beer gardens can apply for “Dog Friendly Spaces” to allow our furry friends the chance to dine with us.

“We’re committed to making Boston a vibrant, family-friendly City, and that means rethinking our outdoor spaces to better build community,” said Mayor Michelle Wu. “Residents and small business owners have been eager for four-legged family members to be able to enjoy our outdoor spaces too, so we’re happy to make this regulatory change allowing dogs on outdoor patios and beer gardens.”

Once applications are approved, the eateries and beer gardens will be able to allow pets starting June 1.

A new seasonal beer garden and performance space opened on the Boston Common Thursday, providing a fresh attraction for America’s oldest public park.
