Boston Marathon 2023: Here are times for Seacoast runners

BOSTON — Karen Fogg ran in her 15th consecutive Boston Marathon Monday, but it was a struggle to get to the finish line of the 127th running of the historic 26.2-mile from Hopkinton, Massachusetts to Copley Square in the heart of downtown Boston.

“It was touch and go there for a bit,” said the York, Maine resident.

Fogg, 56, finished in a time of 3 hours, 40 minutes and 23 seconds.  Her time at the halfway point was 1:47:29.

“The downpour happened around mile 15 for me and I started to get super cold,” Fogg said. “I hate being cold and when I turned onto Commonwealth at mile 17 I stopped and walked for about a minute. I was thinking I was going to stop when I saw my husband, but I just pressed on and got a second wind and made it up the hills.”

Fogg, who set a personal-best Boston time (3:19.50) in 2014, placed 89th in the ages 55-59 women's division.

“I saw (my husband) around mile 21 and he gave me his shirt ,and that totally saved me,” Fogg said.

Fogg also saw her daughter, Sydney, a junior on the Suffolk University women’s cross country and track teams near mile 22.

“The crowds were awesome,” Fogg said. “Out there in the rain like that cheering everyone on is so motivating. I had a smile on my face for that last mile. I am so grateful to finish after thinking I was going to stop. I love that marathon.”

Taylor Simpson, a 2014 graduate of York High School who played field hockey at Merrimack College, ran her second straight Boston Marathon and finished in a personal-best time of 3:31.48.

"I felt pretty good," said Simpson, who missed qualifying for next year's race by 108 seconds. "It was pretty tough, but the crowds really keep you going.

Lee’s Aliaksandr Leuchanka was top Seacoast runner, finishing in a time of 2:32:41.
