Boston offering places to cool off as city heats back up
When it comes to heat, living in the city can seem more intense. As a result, the City of Boston has been reaching out to residents offering cooler places to go if need be.
The residents of the city are losing their appetite for the heat as Boston prepares for another possible heat wave. “Our A/C went out. We are lucky enough to have one but it is just so over-worked this entire summer,” said one woman that spoke with Boston 25 News.
Pine Street Inn President and Executive Director Lyndia Downie warns that this heat can be deadly. Pine Street launched its outreach workers, armed with water, as the temperature climbed.
“Really this weather is just as dangerous for people who are homeless,” said Downie, “for people who don’t come into shelter we worry about heat stroke, dehydration, heat stroke, heat exhaustion so it is a concern.” Mass and Cass is on their radar. “There’s still probably like 100 people down there on a regular basis in this heat, outside. City has a lot of water down there, sun screen, they have a lot of staff and we try to talk people to come in,” said Downie.
The City of Boston has also taken steps to point people in the right direction for where to go to cool off or seek shelter from the heat. In this heat, many say they are paying close attention. “Stay hydrated. That’s all you can do,” said one woman.
