Update: Man slashed in Boston while looking at potential colleges for daughter

The Boston Police Department is searching for a suspect who slashed a man in the back of the head near a Northeastern University dorm on March 24th.

The victim said he was in Boston looking at potential colleges for his daughter. The assault happened at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the area of 452 Huntington Avenue.

According to police, the victim was walking with his wife and daughter when he was approached by a black male in his 40′s wearing a blue windbreaker, white and black striped t-shirt, dark-colored pants, and white sneakers.

“I’ve never seen him here,” said Northeastern student Donatien Gjero. “I can’t imagine taking my daughter to a college visit and then somebody starts screaming and then on top of that stabbing. That’s bad. That’s really bad.”

The suspect, unprovoked, began screaming incoherently at the victim and his family.

After the victim tried to deescalate the situation, the suspect struck him with a box cutter-like object.

“We are finding more and more nowadays there’s so many people who need help and are not getting it and we are finding it on campus too,” said Northeastern professor Samantha Boehm. “There’s a lot of students who need help so that’s scary, that’s sad. It’s awful that the first reaction is to do something of that nature. I’m hoping that the person that did lash out is in a good mental state and hoping that their health is OK and that they’ve been taken care of and also the person that was attacked has been taken care of.

The victim was treated and released at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for a deep laceration to the back of his head.

The suspect was last seen running through the Ruggles MBTA station onto Tremont Street heading towards Melnea Cass Boulevard.
