Boston ranked 4th best city for football fans in 2023

Super Bowl LVII is just days away, and although the Patriots aren’t in this year’s game, Boston has been ranked the 4th best city for football fans.

A new study done by WalletHub released its 2023′s Best & Worst Cities for Football Fans.

WalletHub compared more than 240 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional football team based on 21 key metrics to determine the best places for loving on America’s favorite sport.

The data set ranges from the number of NFL and college football teams to stadium capacity to fan engagement.

Boston earned a score of 51.75 ranking them the 4th best city in the country for football fans and 3rd among large cities.

Pittsburgh was ranked 1st with a score of 61.6.

Here is how Boston topped in some of the categories (1=Best, 125=Avg.):

  • 1st – Number of NFL Championship Wins

  • 3rd – NFL Fan Engagement

  • 12th – NFL Attendance

  • 18th – Performance Level of NFL Team

  • 26th – Avg. Ticket Price for NFL Game

  • 18th – NFL Stadium Capacity

  • 100th – Min. Season Ticket Price for College Football Game

The study also released some stats ahead of Super Bowl LVII.

The average cost of a ticket to the past five Super Bowls is $6,382.

$5,738, is the lowest price of a Super Bowl LVII ticket on the resale market just after the Conference Championships. This is a 35% increase from 2022.

$1 Billion is the estimated economic impact for the greater Phoenix area economy in 2023.

17.8 million Americans plan to watch the big game at a restaurant or a bar.

204 perfect is a 20-year increase in the cost of a 30-second Super Bowl ad (hitting a record cost of $7 million for a spot in 2023).
