Bothell strip mall fire leaves business owners scrambling

An early-morning fire at a Bothell strip mall has left business owners scrambling to recover.

Fire crews were dispatched to the strip mall on Meridian Avenue South near 228th Street Southeast at around 2:35 a.m. Monday.

“I don’t know the specific damage yet. I don’t know if refrigeration is working or if any equipment was damaged. We don’t know that until we can get electricity into our unit,” said Uncle Peteza’s Pizzeria owner, Pete Anthony.

The roof of the entire strip mall was damaged by the fire and one shop has significant damage.

“Currently, we’re in a lake inside of here with all the water and we have no back roof,” said Have a Heart cannabis shop employee Diane Walter.

No one was hurt, but the shops are facing financial losses.

Have a Heart estimates more than $250,000 in products were lost and the future of the shop is uncertain.

“All of our workers here are out of jobs, and in terms of how it affects the business, we don’t know. We can’t open probably for another three to six months, and all of our inventory at this point is a total loss,” said Walter.

Utility crews were at the scene assessing the power lines and the Bothell Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
