Bottles Thrown at Mo Salah as Egypt Star Escorted Off Pitch After Controversial Penalty Miss

Bottles were thrown at Mo Salah as he was escorted off the pitch at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade in Dakar on March 29, after missing a penalty in controversial circumstances as Senegal advanced to the World Cup finals at Egypt’s expense.

Footage of the game showed Salah having multiple lasers pointed at his eyes before he missed his kick in a penalty shootout that followed the home team’s one-nil win. That made it 1-1 on aggregate, with Salah’s Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane converting from the spot to send Senegal through.

Video from Kora Plus moments after the game shows one fan being pushed away from Salah by security. As he approaches the tunnel, fans are seen throwing bottles down from the stand as the player is shielded by security.

The Egyptian FA has complained about the home fans’ behavior, saying the team, and especially Salah, were targets of racist abuse. They also said the team bus was attacked. Credit: Kora Plus via Storyful
