Boulder adding new online parking services

Mar. 4—Boulder on Monday is expanding the available services for those using the city's online parking portal.

In addition to renewing neighborhood parking and commuter permits, purchasing or refilling 20 day passes and cash passes and paying parking citations, customers will be able to apply to wait lists for downtown garages and surface lots, to monitor their status on the wait list and to manage their permits and associated vehicles.

In a news release, Community Vitality Customer Service Supervisor Leah Mayotte acknowledged that the pandemic presents challenges for those in need of parking services, considering many of those previously were available in-person.

"This new functionality will give customers more autonomy over their purchasing and renewals and readily available access to their account information," Mayotte stated in the release.

According to city spokesperson Jennifer Bray, Boulder's Downtown Management Commission in May 2020 approved updates to the city's wait-list policy that it hopes will offer a more equitable and efficient way for interested people to obtain permits.

Among those changes is a five-permit cap for any single customer on the wait list, per each garage or surface lot. There previously had been no limit in place, according to Bray. Additionally, permits that go unused for three months will be removed whereas a person previously could hold onto unused permits indefinitely.

Further, there is a new requirement that people periodically renew their place on the wait list by responding to an annual email from the city's Parking & Access customer service team that includes a list of their wait list request. The city also got rid of its $10 permit deposit. Bray noted that any customer who previously paid the deposit will be grandfathered into the new list and those who want to be removed will receive their money back.

Services that require an in-person visit must be scheduled in advance by appointment. The office is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
