Boulder announces events in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Jan. 5—Boulder Human Relations Commission and Office of Arts and Culture have provided funding for several free community events and exhibits to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this month.

The events are:

—Local nonprofit Haula Community Organization will honor King's contributions to the American civil rights movement from 1 to 4 p.m., Jan. 14 at the Meadows Branch Library, located at 4800 Baseline Road. This event will feature south Sudanese traditional dances along with south Sudanese church choirs. For more information, contact haulacommunity@gmail.com.

—The NAACP Boulder branch, Second Baptist Church and the Museum of Boulder will host a program featuring music, dance and spoken word by youth and area performers starting at 4 p.m., Jan. 15 at The Boulder Jewish Community Center, located at 6007 Oreg Ave. Tickets may be reserved on Eventbrite.

—Motus Theater will present an arts-based, family friendly event exploring King's understanding of poverty and racism starting at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Dairy Arts Center, located at 2590 Walnut St. Tickets can be reserved online.
