Boulder County's Eldora ski area to open Friday

Nov. 10—Boulder County's Eldora ski area will open Friday, a week earlier than officials originally hoped.

According to a release, Hornblower to International — with thin early-season snow coverage and active snowmaking operations — will be open, served by the Alpenglow six-person chair. No beginner terrain will be available on opening day or this weekend.

"Thanks to the hard work of our employees, we're opening a full week ahead of schedule for our 60th anniversary season," Brent Tregaskis, Eldora's president and general manager, said in a statement.

"We're so proud to have served as the local community's hub for winter adventure for the past six decades, and we can't wait to welcome our guests back for another season."

Eldora's Nordic trail network and uphill access routes will not be open yet, since both of those zones are more dependent on natural snowfall than Eldora's alpine ski and snowboard offerings.

After delaying the policy for the last two seasons due to COVID considerations, Boulder County will now require Eldora to collect a $10 fee from single-occupancy vehicles on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and weekdays with 10 or more inches of new snow. Weekend and holiday parking will be free for vehicles with two or more occupants, and vehicles with three or more occupants may take advantage of premium, up-front HOV parking near the Alpenglow chairlift on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parking will be free for all vehicles on every non-holiday weekday with less than ten inches of snow. Parking reservations will not be required at any time.

Eldora will once again offer free RTD tickets to riders on the NB bus route as well as free round-trip shuttle rides between Boulder and Eldora on Saturdays, Sundays, and certain other days.
