Boulder police arrest suspect in bank robbery

Feb. 19—Boulder police say a man has come forward and admitted to robbing a FirstBank last week.

Lance Slater, 35, is charged with aggravated robbery and felony menacing and is being held at the Boulder County Jail on a $5,000 bond as he awaits a preliminary hearing on March 8, according to online court records.

According to a release issued by police last week, a man walked into the FirstBank at 2100 Broadway shortly after 9:30 a.m. Feb. 12 and told the teller he had a bomb and demanded money. The teller gave the man money, and he left on foot before police could locate him.

According to an affidavit, Slater on Wednesday turned himself in to Denver police and said he was the one who committed the robbery.

Boulder police questioned Slater and found he had details of the incident that were not released publicly, including that he left with $250 in $50 bills.

The affidavit did not mention if there was an actual bomb, though the teller told police it looked the like object was actually a cell phone box.

Slater did not say why he decided to turn himself in.

According to the affidavit, Slater has "a multi-state criminal history" including charges of burglary, aggravated robbery, first-degree assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft.
