Boulder Shelter names interim CEO months after naming last shelter leader

Jan. 20—The Boulder Shelter for the Homeless on Friday announced its selection of an interim CEO — months after it hired the last one.

In a news release on Friday, the shelter said its board of directors named Michael Block as its interim CEO. Block will serve concurrently as the interim CEO and in his current role as chief housing officer. The shelter will begin a national search for new leadership in the coming weeks, the release said.

"Since joining the Shelter's staff in 2007, Mike has been an indispensable member of our teammate the Boulder Shelter, and we are grateful that he has agreed to serve in this interim role," said Sarah Meshak, board chair at the Boulder Shelter, in the news release.

"We are grateful to Mike and our entire organization for their continued leadership and compassionate service to our most vulnerable populations during this period of transition."

The news release did not mention when its former CEO, Greg Morris, left the role and his name has been removed from the website. Katie Randall, chief development and communications officer with the shelter, declined to comment on whether Morris resigned and when he left role due to confidentiality rules for personnel.

The shelter announced Morris as the CEO in September. Before coming to Boulder, Morris served as executive director and co-CEO of HopeWorks, the largest comprehensive homeless service provider in New Mexico. According to a news release from the Boulder Shelter, while there, he led an effort to build the first newly constructed, single-site permanent supportive housing project in the state.

Before working in New Mexico, Morris was executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho and began Charitable Assistance to Community's Homeless, a re-housing nonprofit serving families experiencing homelessness in Idaho.
