Bournemouth vs Chelsea result: Visitors stumble in attempt to bounce back from Bayern Munich defeat

Chelsea‘s attempt to bounce back from a comprehensive Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich did not go as smoothly as Frank Lampard would have hoped on Saturday, with the Blues playing out a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

Marcos Alonso had put Chelsea ahead in the 33rd minute after Olivier Giroud’s effort came back off the crossbar.

The Spaniard, who was sent off against Bayern midweek, was well-positioned to fire in the rebound and set his side on track for victory.

The home side, though, turned things around with two quickfire goals early in the second half.

Jefferson Lerma headed in the equaliser from Ryan Fraser’s cross after 54 minutes, and just three minutes later Joshua King knocked the ball in at the back post.

Chelsea substitute Michy Batshuayi saw a goal ruled out for a clear offside moments after stepping on the pitch, before wing-back Alonso got his second of the afternoon when he nodded in with five minutes left.

Despite heavy pressure from the visitors, Bournemouth were able to hang on for an important point.

The result sees Bournemouth sit 17th in the table, two points ahead of Carabao Cup finalists Aston Villa, who have played a match less and take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
