🌱 Bowie State Bomb Threat + FDA Recalls CovClear COVID-19 Test

Hey, Laurel! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right.

First, today's weather:

Sun and areas of high clouds. High: 41 Low: 27.

Here are the top three stories today in Laurel:

  1. Howard University and Bowie State University (BSU) were among a few historically Black colleges and universities that received bomb threats Monday morning. As a result, campus operations were disrupted and police were called to investigate. Classes were canceled at five of the schools and students were told to remain in their dorm rooms until an all-clear was issued. (The Washington Informer)

  2. Dr. Vikaskumar Patel, DDS of Laurel earned an Associate Fellowship in the National Dental Implant Academy. As one of 750 dentists who hold this distinguished membership, Dr. Patel is one of the leading experts in implant care. To qualify for an Associate Fellowship, Dr. Patel completed a minimum of 300 hours of post-doctoral instruction in implant dentistry, performed implant cases, and passed the Academy's Associate Fellow examination. (WFMZ Allentown)

  3. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled the CovClear COVID-19 Rapid Antigen test and ImmunoPass COVID-19 Neutralizing Antibody Rapid Test by Empowered Diagnostics because these tests were not authorized by the FDA. These unauthorized tests have “potentially higher risk of false results.” The FDA is encouraging anyone who received these tests in the last two weeks to get tested again. (Facebook)

From our sponsor:

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.
