Bowl projections: Could we get another Oklahoma State-Ole Miss Sugar Bowl?
There wasn't much movement at the top of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night. And there's not much movement at the top of our bowl projections as a result.
The only significant changes to the New Year's Six bowl games come in New Orleans, where we have two new Sugar Bowl participants. The new entries come after both Oklahoma and Texas A&M lost on Saturday and dropped in the rankings. Two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff leaves the door open for the third-highest team in the rankings to head to the Sugar Bowl.
Here are our latest bowl projections ahead of the final two weeks of the regular season.
College Football Playoff semifinals
Orange Bowl (Dec. 31)
Georgia vs. Ohio State
We’re sticking with the top four in the CFP rankings for another week but swapping out Oregon and Ohio State. We all know the top four picture will get a lot clearer over the next two weeks.
Cotton Bowl (Dec. 31)
Oregon vs. Alabama
If Ohio State beats Michigan State fairly easily on Saturday, will they jump the Ducks even if Oregon has a comfortable time with Utah?
New Year's Six games
Peach Bowl (Dec. 30)
Wake Forest (ACC champion) vs. Notre Dame (at-large)
Both teams moved up in the rankings in the wake of Oklahoma’s loss.
Fiesta Bowl (Jan. 1)
Michigan State (at-large) vs. Cincinnati (at-large)
This matchup projection could change after Saturday. Michigan State would move back up into the provisional playoff field with a win over the Buckeyes.
Rose Bowl (Jan. 1)
Michigan (Big Ten) vs. Utah (Pac-12)
Could a five-loss Utah team make the Rose Bowl? The Utes are 7-3 and could be 8-5 if they lose to Oregon on Saturday and then again to the Ducks in the Pac-12 title game.
Sugar Bowl (Jan. 1)
Oklahoma State (Big 12) vs. Ole Miss (SEC)
This is a rematch of the 2016 Sugar Bowl. It was the last time either team made a postseason trip to New Orleans.
