HASTINGS, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal bowling program made the long trip to Hastings on Tuesday to face off with the Saxons in Interstate 8 action.

Coldwater split with Hastings on the day, with the boys taking a win while the girls suffered their first loss of the year.

In the boys varsity contest it was Coldwater defeating Hastings by the score of 23-7.

Coldwater secured wins in both regular games, taking game one 844-767 and game two 733-683, securing the overall pin total 1577-1450.

The teams split the baker games, with Coldwater taking game one 145-139 while Hastings took game two 159-150. The Saxons took the overall total as well, 297-295.

Coldwater was led on the night by Brady Hawver with a 184; Vinnie Beekman with a 178; and Kristian Yearling wth a 177.

In the girls varsity contest the short handed Lady Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season, dropping their match up with the Saxons by the score of 20-10.

Coldwater was bowling short handed as three of their usual starters missed the competition because of participation in the CHS school musical (which all should try and see), so three JV bowlers were called up to the varsity level.

Coldwater dropped both regular games, losing game one 791-672 and game two 731-716, dropping the overall total 1522-1388.

The two teams split the baker games, with Hastings taking game one 178-162 while Coldwater took game two 185-116 and the overall total 347-294.

Leading the way for Coldwater was Violet Waltke with a 168 and Lily Cook with a 166.

Both JV teams took victories in their matches.

Coldwater will next see action on Thursday when they take on Marshall.

Jonesville sweeps Quincy on the lanes

JONESVILLE, MI. — The Quincy Oriole bowling program traveled to L&J Lanes in Jonesville Tuesday night to take on the Comets, with Jonesville taking both varsity contests.

In the boys portion of the night it was Jonesville taking the win by the score of 25.5-4.5.

Jonesville came out early and took the baker play by 30 total pins, 372-342, for the early lead.

In singles action two Orioles scored in game one with Tyler Short throwing a 202 and Grant Wright firing off a 208.

Game two saw Quincy muster up two and a half points with Draven Baker hitting a 197, Brady Harper throwing a 228; and Maverick Walp throwing a 205. Wright was edged by a single mark in game two after throwing a 223 for his first career 400 series.

In varsity girls action Quincy fell to Jonesville 27-3.

Quincy dropped all 10 baker points to give the Comets an early lead, with Jonesville winning the baker games 315-275.

In singles action Madison Wineland threw a 166 and Jenica Kaser threw a 191, scoring for the Quincy effort. In game two it was Kaser again scoring, rolling a 214.

In JV action the young Quincy bowlers continue to show how bright the future is for the Oriole bowling program as they fired off a 1736 total in singles play and a 327 baker series.

Leading the JV action was Tyler White wth a 202 and a 178; Caleb Kelley with a 149; Max Stetler with a 157 and a 154; Dylan Sadger with a 166 and a 171; Carson White with games of 201 and 195; and Nathan Richer who a 163.

Bronson boys bowling nips Burr Oak

BRONSON, MI. — The Bronson Viking boys bowling team took home a razor thin win over Burr Oak Monday night, winning by the score of 16-14.

The teams split the baker games, with Bronson taking game one 153-142, however Burr Oak took game two 157-126 and also the overall total 299-279 for the early 6-4 lead.

In the regular series it was Bronson taking game one 845-697. Taking individual wins for Bronson was Hunter Woodman with a 197, Phoenix Haviland with a 183, Colin with a 140, and Nic Cranson with a 160. Also bowling well was Shaun McAfee with a 165.

Burr Oak came back and took game two 834-827, however Bronson still held on for the overall total 1672-1531.

Earning individual points for Bronson in game two was McAfee with a 198 and Tyler Overholt with a 143. Also rolling well for Bronson was Woodman with a 183; Haviland with a 125; and Cranson with a 178.
