Bowman, Wise claim ski halfpipe Grand Prix titles; event marred by scary crash

PARK CITY, Utah - Maddie Bowman followed up her gold at the X Games with another at Saturday's U.S. Grand Prix in ski halfpipe.

Bowman was the only woman competing with two 900s and landed both on her second run to win with a score of 85.2.

Japan's Ayana Onozuka was second with a score of 84.4 and Virginie Faivre of Switzerland took third at 82.8.

Calgary's Rosalind Groenewoud was the top Canadian, finishing fifth with 82.2 points.

Megan Gunning, also from Calgary, placed eighth at 75.2, Edmonton's Keltie Hansen finished 12th with 60.4 and Cassie Sharpe of Comox, B.C., was 32nd at 39.6.

X Games champ David Wise and fellow American Torin Yater-Wallace finished 1-2 in the men's World Cup event, which was marred by a scary crash that sent Simon d'Artois of Whistler, B.C., to the hospital with a concussion.

A team spokeswoman said his CATscan was fine but he remains at University of Utah hospital with concussion symptoms, including nausea. D'Artois still placed 11th, despite the incomplete run.

Wise's winning score was 93.8, edging Yater-Wallace by two-tenths of a point.

France's Kevin Rolland took third at 93.0, edging countryman Thomas Krief (91.8).

Mike Riddle of Spruce Grove, Alta., was sixth at 89.6 and Mike Margetts of Penticton, B.C., was seventh at 89.4.

Calgary's Noah Bowman was 14th at 81.8, Garett Northey of Red Deer, Alta., finished 24th at 71.00, Calgary's Aaron MacKay placed 31st with 61.8.

Calgary's Kristopher Atkinson came 36th with 57.6 points, Calgary's Brendan MacKay was 41st with 52.2, Lukas Bowman, also from Calgary, was 51st at 40.8 and Collin Jefferies, from Red Deer, was 53rd with 40.00 points.

Five of 12 men fell in the first run and four women fell in two runs combined down the 22-foot pipe.

France's Benoit Valentin suffered an apparent left knee injury.
