Box Score Breakdown: Clemson’s stat leaders in win over Gamecocks
There was a lot on the line in Saturday’s meeting between Clemson (10-2, 8-0 ACC) and the South Carolina Gamecocks (8-4, 4-4 SEC) in Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers were in search of their eighth straight win over the Gamecocks, which would be the most consecutive wins for either team in the history of the rivalry as well as the nation’s longest active win streak at home (40).
All of that came crashing down with Clemson’s CFP hopes going down the drain as well in the Tiger’s 31-30 loss to South Carolina on Saturday.
While the Tigers were able to come up lucky in the first half with both a pick-6 and a safety on the defensive side to compensate for a lack of offensive success through the air, it proved to not be enough.
Turnovers continued to be an issue this week, the most costly coming in the fourth quarter with under five minutes to play on a punt return which sealed the deal for the Gamecock victory.
