Boy, 13, shot and killed in Georgia by ski mask-wearing gunman while fixing lawnmower at home
Police in Georgia are hunting for a gunman who shot and killed a 13-year-old boy while he was repairing a lawnmower in front of his family’s home.
Brayan Zavala was killed on 15 October in Riverdale, 10 miles south of Atlanta.
His brother Jesus Zavala, 16, on a Go Fund Me page for the family, wrote: “He has been taken from us for no reason. We have no answers."
The Zavala family said a dark colored Chevrolet slowly pulled up at the house, at around 9pm on the day of the shooting.
A man in a ski mask then got out of the car and, without saying anything, shot the teenager in the face.
He died on the scene, in his father and brothers’ arms.
“The shooter didn't even say I want your money or this is a robbery or I'm assaulting you,” said Jesus Zavala, speaking to 11 Alive news.
“He just came, stood there in silence and shot my brother.”
The Zavala family, who moved to the area around four years ago, say they have no idea why anyone would want to harm the teenager.
Brayan was a student at Kendrick Middle School.
Clayton County Police are continuing the search for the killer, who has not been identified and remains on the loose.
In a statement they appealed to the public for information, saying: “The Clayton County Police Department is humbly asking the community and any persons having knowledge of this crime to contact the police department or Crime Stoppers for any information about this case.”
