Boy, 14, whose sled was pulled by an ATV, strikes tree and breaks leg in Jackson: police

A 14-year-old boy suffered a compound fracture of his left leg Saturday after being pulled by an all-terrain vehicle while on a sled and striking a tree, police said.

Police got a call just after noon about the incident in a rural area between South Stump Tavern Road and Toms River Road.

The 15-year-old driving the ATV was not injured, Jackson Police Chief Matthew Kunz said.

The teen rider sought assistance right after the crash, he said.

The victim was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment. His injuries were not expected to be life threatening, Kunz said. Police continue to investigate the incident.
