Charges have been filed against a juvenile for fatally shooting and trying to rob a 20-year-old man in the Buena Park neighborhood late last month.

The boy, who is not being identified because of his age, was cited in a juvenile petition with first-degree murder after being identified as the person who robbed and fatally shot Johnny Guaman in the 900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, Chicago police said.

Guaman was on a sidewalk about 2:10 p.m. on Oct. 29 when, according to witnesses, two males confronted him and tried to grab his backpack, police said.

When Guaman refused to hand it over, one of the robbers drew a gun and shot Guaman once in the chest, killing him. The two fled east to Broadway in a Jeep Cherokee with temporary plates, police said.

Guaman, of the same neighborhood where he was shot, was pronounced dead at 2:41 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy determined Guaman died of a gunshot wound to the chest and his death was ruled a homicide.

It was unclear if police were still seeking the accomplice.

The teen was scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
